Next month’s topics include Greta Garbo in a return to Autonomia’s movie star series. You can read about a new adaptation of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. A new Arizona travelogue is in progress. Revolving series include obituaries, books, tie-ins, travelogues, history and just deserts, among others.
Besides introducing an occasional miniseries, such as the recent trilogy on 2021’s Objectivist conferences, certain features may be dropped, added or expanded. Last month’s Autonomia includes an obituary on Peter Bogdanovich (with a note on Betty White) whom I met during an event sponsored by the Academy. Readers delved into what I describe as Joe Biden’s anti-press conference, a 12-month perspective identifying what remains unknown about 2021’s storming of the Capitol and a full review of Cal Newport’s Deep Work. A 10th anniversary article recalled the wonder of 2012’s silent, black and white Best Picture Oscar winner The Artist. Tie-In Tuesday returned.
For Autonomia’s first anniversary, I added a logo. Some readers wrote that they like it.
Autonomia’s first 2022 article, however, examines my visit to an underground holocaust museum. This includes an audio tour, a holographic exchange with a Jewish survivor and a complete diorama of the only death camp with a successfully armed mass revolt against the National Socialist regime. It’s a report on America’s oldest holocaust museum—the first in the U.S. to be founded by a band of survivors (who met at Hollywood High School)—here in the city of angels. It’s this year’s inaugural article (for which I lowered the paywall) because Autonomia exists to focus not on what’s trending but what ought to be known, studied and remembered.
Think, read and live free.
