It’s a movie based on a book and/or several literary sources about the only successful mass revolt against the Nazis in a death camp. Recently, I wrote about studying the Sobibor, Poland death camp rebellion in an Autonomia article about LA’s Holocaust Museum. In fact, I chose my visit to the museum as 2022’s first topic because I think it’s vital to let you know about the one throughout history who dares to think and live free.
This is Autonomia’s central focus. What happened in a death camp in Poland matters. I doubt whether this film, which aired on America’s Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) on this date in 1987, could be made today—at least not without philosophically siding with the Nazis. This is how fast the West has declined in the 35 years since Escape from Sobibor was televised. This is why I created Autonomia. Did you know that death camp Jews fought back—and won? Now you do.
Years ago, I told the story of how I came to learn about the film. Read the story here. Meanwhile, please support this publication and subscribe to my Substack newsletter and publication. You can tell your own world about the movie and the defiant ones who fought back and lived free. And, in doing this, I think you can change the world.
