News from America’s land of enchantment that NBC’s Saturday Night Live star Alex Baldwin shot and killed the cinematographer and wounded the director of a film during the 12th day of filming trickled out this morning. Baldwin, an outspoken activist who once portrayed Tom Clancy’s character Jack Ryan and recently lampooned President Trump, denounces police and seeks government gun control.

Police are reportedly investigating the incident, which at least one report indicates involved a live round of ammunition loaded in a prop gun. No charges have been brought against the actor, who also appeared in Mike Nichols’s Working Girl (1988).

The deadly incident, whether a crime, such as murder or manslaughter, or an accident, underscores Hollywood’s bankruptcy. Baldwin, as a prominent actor who satirized Trump for years and as a leftist, represents Hollywood’s dominant political philosophy, such as it is.
