Publisher Wins Golden Quill Award
Autonomia writer, editor and publisher Scott Holleran recognized for best sports journalism by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania
The article on Roberto Clemente, which I wrote for Pittsburgh Quarterly’s 15th anniversary edition, “Why Did ‘the Great One’ Go Down?” was awarded for “excellence in written journalism.” I accepted the Golden Quill award from the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania last week at a ceremony in Pittsburgh.
The nearly 3,000-word article about the late Pittsburgh Pirates champion involved deep research and development. When the winner was announced, a presenter explained why the judges awarded my retrospective for Best Sports Journalism. In a podcast episode for Autonomia’s paid subscriber, I tell the story of the article’s impetus, process and publication.
I’m enthused to be researching, developing and writing new articles about Pittsburgh for publication—on Autonomia and for other presses, including Pittsburgh Quarterly—this year. Meanwhile, I’m proud to accept the Golden Quill for my story about a hero.
