Tom Cruise’s sequel to Top Gun stimulates the senses. It’s a solid action movie for Paramount—it’ll probably debut for home audiences on the new streaming service Paramount Plus—with thrilling aviation scenes. I’m not a fan of Tom Cruise. His acting, which is not really acting, is flat, bland and artificial. With jet black hair, poses and his sole signature—hyper-kinetic sprints—the popular movie figure is like a relic of 20th century pseudo-heroism. As “Maverick,” he leads a nostalgic, exciting movie which satisfies on every level.
