This post concerns the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which severely hurts the cause of free speech. Your context may be relevant, particularly if you are a victim of a mass shooting or other trauma related to the initiation of the use of force. Last year, I named the assassin as man of the year and forecast a spike in assassinations as a means to and byproduct of inciting and realizing chaos, anarchy and totalitarianism. Throughout my career, I’ve reported on assassination, recently with emphasis on the hero who protects the targeted individual from assassination. In fact, I’m working on a new report on an American hero against assassination. In the meantime, particularly if you, like me, are an intellectual and recipient of threats, including death threats, this commentary—motivated by an urgent sense that we’re running out of time—is for you.

Some important facts about the assassin have come to light since his arrest. According to a video shared on social media, the assassin, Tyler Robinson, is a recipient of at least $30,000 in subsidies for state-sponsored education. He’s the son of a police officer. The 22-year-old college-bred assassin is a Mormon who, according to various reports, including an article in Time magazine and an article in USA Today, was motivated to assassinate Charlie Kirk because he thinks Kirk is “full of hate.“
